Kuk Sool Won™ is a traditional Korean martial art that was created in 1958 by Kuk Sa Nim In Hyuk Suh in South Korea. Kuk Sool Won™ utilizes kicks, punches, and conditioning in order to build foundational self-defense skills. Although it’s a unique martial art that focuses on bettering general well-being as well as physical strength. In 1975, Kuk Sa Nim In Hyuk Suh established the World Kuk Sool Association, an international organization that strives to explore various Asian fighting arts and training methods. This allows the World Kuk Sool Association to cover a variety of techniques that benefit defense, attack, development, and internal healing. While the practice is quite new, it’s rooted deep in Korean culture and traditions that value and appreciate the mental development that martial arts yields.
Our History:
Kuk Sool Won™ Family Martial Arts opened in 2010 under Christopher Wilson with the purpose to improve lives through traditional martial arts. Christopher began teaching martial arts in 2000, starting in North Hollywood and eventually landing in nearby Sherman Oaks, California where the dojang stands today. He started his martial arts journey when he recognized his natural teaching skills at summer programs and summer camps. Two years went by and he realized his passion for working with families and teaching martial arts. The biggest inspiration that led to Christopher opening Kuk Sool Won™ Family Martial Arts is being able to witness improvement and the success of his students. Watching his students overcome challenges and achieve their goals leaves Christopher humbled to be able to live out his passion in martial arts.
